There will be occasions when some will come to your adult day care and the person they want to enroll simply is not a good fit.  Maybe they need to spend 6 hours per day lying down or were recently in the hospital battling TB or have behavioral issues you are not equipped to handle.  What should you do?

1.  Be sure and have a handy list of other nearby centers to give them to visit

2.  Never say “We don’t serve that kind of person”.  It will come across as insensitive and prejudicial.  Never say, “you picked the wrong place” which could make them feel you are questioning their intelligence or inferring they are lazy and did not perform adequate research.

Since it is likely we are already dealing with a stressed family caregiver we do not want to add to their emotional burden.  Let’s be helpful while watching what we say.
